Disclosure

Most publications covering nonprofit software are paid by nonprofit software companies. Usually through affiliate commissions, sometimes through sponsorship, occasionally through both while describing themselves as independent.

This one is not, and this page exists so you can hold us to that.

What we do not take

• No affiliate links. Not on reviews, not on comparisons, not in a sidebar, not in a newsletter. No link on this site earns money when you click it.
• No sponsored posts. No paid placement in any list, ranking or roundup, and no paid inclusion in any directory we publish.
• No payment for coverage. Being covered here cannot be bought, and neither can being covered favourably.
• No vendor preview. No company sees a page about it before publication, and none is offered the chance to comment on a draft.
• No free product in exchange for coverage. Where a paid plan is needed to assess a tool, we pay for it.
• No advertising of any kind at present, including display advertising.

What that costs

Real money. Affiliate commissions in this category run from roughly thirty to several hundred dollars per referral, and a site of this kind could earn a living from them.

Consider what that does to a ranking. If one CRM pays $200 a referral and another pays nothing, a publisher taking commissions has a standing financial interest in the first appearing higher. Most handle it honestly. The reader has no way to tell which ones, and that uncertainty is the actual cost of the model.

Declining it is a deliberate choice rather than a position of convenience, and it is the reason a recommendation here carries information.

How it is funded instead

Currently, out of pocket. That is sustainable at this size and would not be at ten times it, so the question is worth answering before it becomes urgent.

Models we would consider: reader support or membership with no effect on coverage, paid original research published openly, and clearly labelled display advertising sold by a third party with no relationship to what we cover editorially.

Models we would not: affiliate revenue, sponsored content, paid placement, paid inclusion in a directory, or lead generation of any kind, under any label.

If this ever changes, this page changes first, before any money is accepted, and the change is dated and logged in the corrections log.

Other things worth disclosing

We use some of the tools we write about, including free nonprofit tiers where we qualify for them. Where a page covers something we use, it says so.

No writer here holds a financial interest in any organization covered. Any employment history or personal relationship with one is disclosed on the page rather than in a footnote, and where a current relationship exists we do not write about that organization at all.

Holding us to it

If you find a link on this site that earns a commission, tell us. It is either an error, in which case it is removed and logged the same day, or it is a broken promise, in which case you should stop trusting the site and say so publicly.

You do not have to take our word for any of this. Nothing here uses affiliate link formats, which are visible in any link you hover over or inspect.
